It’s time for some puzzles!
It’s time to try out a puzzle which is a bit different than what you might be used to! In this puzzle, you have to find the mystery areas by implementing your knowledge in the area maze!
Warm up
The puzzles that you are about to solve are based on the original idea of Naoki Inaba. The Area Maze puzzle, which is “menseki meiro” in Japanese, is a fun way to calculate the maze of rectangles! So, let’s do it! A quick reminder: in order to find the areа of a rectangle you need to multiply the length by the width.
Learn
That wasn’t difficult, right? Now it’s time to answer the rest of the questions on the webpage.
Together with your buddy, you have 40 minutes to answer as many questions as you can without using a calculator!
Type your answers into the boxes provided leaving no spaces. As you work through the exercise click the "Check" button. If you have any wrong answers, do your best to do corrections but if there is anything you don't understand, please ask for help.
Dive in 1
This first page is Level 1. Did you finish it? Well done!!! Scroll down and click on Level 2, then Level 3, and then Level 4 and become a puzzles master!

Good job!
Now, what about creating your own puzzle? Together with your buddy, try to create a puzzle like the one you have just mastered using similar questions. The more complicated the better! You can either take a piece of paper and sketch your puzzle or create it on an electronic device. When you are ready, take a picture or a screenshot of your puzzle and get it uploaded!

Now:
- Give your puzzle to other buddy-teams and check if they can solve it. Did they find it easy or difficult? What would you have added, if you had more time?
Then:
- Try to solve the puzzles of other buddy teams and give them feedback: was their puzzle easy or difficult? What did you like about their puzzle?
Reflect
How can you use this knowledge in your everyday life? Think of situations in which you may need to carry out calculations as you did to solve the puzzles.
Think of at least 2 different situations!
Create a postcard that showcase these situations and have it uploaded here!
