The valorisation of human resources – a challenging but important endeavour

Human Resources: what’s that about? In this unit we will find out! Here you’ll learn how to help your staff feel comfortable and engage in their work with all their passion, ideas and skills! Have a great time!

Warm up StarStar

Before we start, let’s first warm up. Together with your buddy try to find the answers to the following questions.

Learn StarStar

In this video you will meet Mary, whose interest in the dynamics of humans at work started while working on her family’s farm!

Dive in 1 StarStar

Please watch the video from min. 1 to 5 twice and with your buddy answer the following questions.

If necessary, you may go back and forth within the sequence.

  1. According to Mary, what is the difference between treating employees “humanly” and “humanely”? Explain it in your own words. Do you agree?
  2. Mary reports on some examples of “vertical career jumps” that she experienced in her company with employees. What do you think she means?

Dive in 2 StarStar

Please watch the sequence from min. 5-10 twice and together with your buddy answer the questions.

If necessary, you may go back and forth within the sequence.

  1. In which context does Mary compare cars to human beings? Think about it and consult each other: what are the actual differences in working on material vs. human resources?
  2. What does ‘engagement’ mean in the working context and what are the benefits of it?

Create StarStarStar

Imagine you both are leading a (small-scale) business with a diversified work team (gender, socio-cultural, languages, ages, dis/abilities).

You notice that due to external constraints (e.g. Pandemic) both the engagement and the performance level of your staff have decreased.

Please brainstorm and think together of 1 measure and/or 1 incentive (non-monetary) way that you could implement to foster engagement of your employees in- or outside the workplace.

Describe all details beyond this strategy and present it in the work.it area!

If you want your content to be in the KIDS4ALLL gallery, please ask your educator to upload it in the work.it area.

Reflect StarStar

Do you feel that your skills are acknowledged and appreciated in your personal context by teachers and parents/tutors?

What makes you feel this way and what doesn’t?

Does it have an impact on your motivation and engagement?

Share your reflections with your buddy and make a postcard together!

Tip: Show it to your teachers and parents and take the chance to share your perspective with them!
