Dive in 2
In a democracy, every voice counts. Everyone can have an opinion. This opinion is formed when people interpret the information that reaches them.
But what happens when this information is inaccurate or fake? How does one make a valid conclusion based on false premises? How does fake news affect public opinion?
Together with your buddy have a look at magazines, newspapers, online activity, tv adverts and discuss the questions above.
Create 1
Look online, also in social media if you like, and see if you can find an advert, news item or any other image or report which you want to verify if it is true or false.
What questions help you to verify its correctness?
Brainstorm 5-10 questions together with your buddy!
Create 2
Work with your buddy! Create two virtual adverts using the technology or digital application of your choice… one which is fake and one which is not. List the differences between the two. You could use ‘paint’, ‘moviemaker’, ‘panopto’, ‘animaker’ etc.
Reflect
Write a short (2-3 paragraphs) essay to show how you recognized fake news. Be sure to list specific factors that helped you to evaluate the content, like those related to the words chosen to be used, the visuals and other factors of influence.
Choose an example and make a postcard!
Tipp: Use the notes you wrote during the unit!
Ask your educator to login and share your postcard with the KIDS4ALLL community.
